 CELTIC COUNTRY YARD DOG CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2013 Celtic Country Dog Championships was the 14th year operating at the Australian Celtic Festival. The concept of having a Yard Dog Trial at the Festival was two fold:

  1. To allow visitors more "country experience" while at the Standing Stones,
  2. To recognise the contribution made by dogs to the management of stock. Scotland and Wales were two of the first countries in the world to use dogs for mustering.

During the weekend, we held three events, the Maiden which is held for dogs who have never won a trial before, Novice that allows dogs who have won a Maiden to compete and then onto the Opens, which is for any dog that has won all sections previously.

Saturday maiden and novice events were supported by Tim Hughes and Sal Molesworth with the supply of sheep.Lee Fletcher (Walcha) and dog Mack won the maiden ,while Peter Hogan (Glen Innes) and dog River won the Novice. Sunday was a huge success due to dog triallers travelling from the Goondiwindi Nationals.Sheep were supplied by Andrew,Fiona & Fergus McIntosh . Nick Ray (Taralga) and dog Chief won the championships.

This event was proudly sponsored by the following Glen Innes businesses
